Since Shift4 took over, several pricing changes have raised concerns.
– On March 1, 2025, Shift4 increased its rates by 0.05% plus $0.03 per transaction.
– Many merchants were transitioned to Shift4’s “Simplechange” pricing structure, which is not a true interchange plus model.
– It’s a bundled plan that typically costs 0.20% to 0.30% more per transaction.
– On July 1, 2025, Shift4 added a new Month-End Billing Fee of 0.02% (2 basis points) on total sales volume.
– Additionally, a $99 Annual Program Fee per location has started appearing on monthly statements—months earlier than most processors typically apply such charges.
– Other issues with Shift4 include misleading pricing structures, reserve account requirements for some merchants, liquidated damages for early termination, hidden fees, and a lack of publicly available processing rates. There have also been documented overcharges on merchant statements.
